The Future of Denver?

It’s been a while since I’ve posted and there are many adventures with stories unwritten. Tonight, I feel compelled to discuss the city I love — Denver.

It’s hard not to love Colorado. It’s one of my favorite places on Earth and I’ve visited several states and 12 countries beyond the USA. Denver has it all, and I highly recommend the History Colorado Center to all ages because it’s interactive and amazing and showcases everything from Casa Bonita, Bluecifer, RMNP, and the history of our early architecture / mines.

Tonight, I was being the normal person / coloradan that I am, and responded to a man at Union Station that was asking about the D line and a specific stop. He appeared to have been doing drugs. I informed him that it didn’t connect to Union Station, and he proceeded to follow me onto the W line and sit right in front of me although I made it a point to walk a bit after getting on the train. I realized he had no destination but to follow me.

He was obnoxious, inappropriate, rude, and frankly made me quite uncomfortable. Did I mention he pulled the back of his pants down just far enough to where his bare butt was on the seat? Uhhh…. gross pervert. First I put in my headphones so I could have another reason to ignore him, and he continues trying to get my attention. I was pretty concerned that he would get off at my stop. He was also preparing to hollow out a pen (I’m assuming for more drug use) and had a passenger across the aisle remove the ink for him since I was ignoring him.

I got up pretty shaken up as my stop was approaching and moved seats several aisles away from him. He looked pretty upset when he realized I wasn’t getting off and just trying to get away from him. I told the new guy next to me that I felt like I was being followed and he was nice enough to call RTD security to see if someone could be at my stop since it was dark and with few people on a Sunday night. RTD was too slow, so the nice guy got off at my stop with me to discourage the creepy guy and waited for the next train to continue his journey. That was just another nice stranger from Colorado.

The creepy guy kept talking about how this was his first night in Denver and the people are so nice… pointed to me then asked if I worked at a construction site. This is what leads to my fear that those kinds of people who are the reason that strangers ignore you on the streets in California, will move to Denver for legal weed. This could then result in the chain reaction that other people like me begin to experience stalkers and creeps and in turn learn not to be so nice to strangers.

I’m afraid of that. A lot of people move to Colorado to start over, and I’m happy for them because frankly we know what amazing things we have here! Now… a lot of people are moving here for legal marijuana. It’s a shame. Rental costs are going up, and some tourists (like the one I met tonight) are not so nice or contributing members of society.

If you are going to move here, you need to adopt the Colorado state of mind, please.
